CB radio transmits on an HF / AM frequency band which contains 40 channels, open to all. The frequencies are therefore not private but allow quick and easy communication. Radios are used primarily by trucking companies or individuals to keep in touch. The radio scanner, on the other hand, is a receiver that scans public radio frequencies.
